The art circle of NIMH organized a Christmas event in December 2019 for the inward patients of NIMH. The choir visited each ward and sang Christmas carols with them. NIMH director, Dr. Dhammika Wijesinghe also joined the team.
The Bodhigara of ancient Bo-tree of NIMH was renovated and opened for public to worship by the Buddhist association of NIMH on 18th November 2019. The renovation was supported by NIMH staff and external donors.
The biennial child and adolescent psychiatry conference 2019, organized by the collage of child and adolescent psychiatry was held on 20th and 21st December at the mental health training unit of NIMH.
Dr. Kapila Ranasinghe, the consultant psychiatrist, together with the staff, organized a Christmas celebration at ward 08 and 09 on 17th and 19th December 2019. The event was colored by the voluntary participation of veteran artists as well.
The rehabilitation unit of NIMH had a wonderful opportunity to have two stalls at Senehasa Education Resource Research & Information Centre, Narahenpita, an exhibition where they demonstrated their clients’ work.
The health education unit of NIMH organized an awareness program on HIV/AIDS in commemoration of World AIDS day on 01st December 2019. The lecture was conducted by Dr. Jayadari Ranathunga, consultant venereologist of Colombo North Teaching Hospital, Ragama.
The winner of all island inter-school essay competition organized by NIMH in commemoration of World Mental Health Day, Miss. Janani Imasha Wijesinghe was invited to NIMH. She was awarded a certificate, medal and a cash prize.
The Gender-Based Violence prevention unit of NIMH organized a workshop on cyber crimes at NIMH. Cyber crimes are known to be a major contributing factor to gender-based violence.
A two-day workshop on legal awareness and professional ethics was held on 12th and 13th December 2019 at NIMH. Psychiatric social workers representing all 25 districts participated in the workshop. The event was organized by the psychiatric social work department and the mental health training unit of NIMH.
