The NIMH, together with consumers and staff had a Pongal celebration at NIMH premises on 15th January 2020. The religious and cultural events were followed by traditional Pongal refreshments.

The Largest Hospital for Mental Health in Sri Lanka
A Buddha statue was placed at the accounts branch of the National Institute of Mental Health on 03rd January 2020. It was followed by a pirith chanting ceremony.
The Director-General of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, Mr. Oshada Senanayake visited NIMH on 14th January 2020. He extended his and TRCSL support to enhance the services of 1926 – National Mental Health Helpline.

The ceremonial event of first working day of year 2020 was held on 01st January 2020 at NIMH premises, parallel to the national event held at the Presidential Secretariat.
The sports club of NIMH won the championship of Anti-Malaria Campaign Cricket Carnival 2019. The NIMH congratulates the team for their good effort & result.
The art circle of NIMH organized a Christmas event in December 2019 for the inward patients of NIMH. The choir visited each ward and sang Christmas carols with them. NIMH director, Dr. Dhammika Wijesinghe also joined the team.
The Bodhigara of ancient Bo-tree of NIMH was renovated and opened for public to worship by the Buddhist association of NIMH on 18th November 2019. The renovation was supported by NIMH staff and external donors.
