The staff of NIMH received training(s) in Drama Therapy as means for stress management and other therapeutic purposes.
An update on Tuberculosis Management was conducted for the staff of NIMH. The District Tuberculosis Control Officer (DTCO) – Colombo was the resource person for this.
In the series of sessions done for staff burnout management session 4 was about music therapy for stress and anxiety management.
A workshop on management of violent and difficult patients in Psychiatric Services was conducted targeting all front line clinical staff on 08.07.2020. This training is conducted under the supervision of Dr. Renuka Jayasinghe and Dr. Jayananda Horadugoda, Senior Consultant Psychiatrists. This is part of NIMH CPD programs.
The ceremonial Laying of foundation stones to construct a Dhamma Shala (Worship Hall) near the Sacred Bodhi Tree at NIMH was held under the blessings and guidance of the clergy on 04.07.2020 (Asela Full Moon Poya Day). This construction will be a kind donation by Mr. Sudath Tennakoon, Mrs. Sandya Tennakoon and family.
CAN MH Lanka, with the support of IFES Sri Lanka, HYPE Sri Lanka and the National Institute of Mental Health, Sri Lanka organized a consultative meeting to design voter education materials on hate speech and inclusion of persons with disabilities to the democratic process.
The Monthly Clinical Governance Meeting for the month of July was held on 01.07.2020 and the focus on protection of patients rights – medico legal aspects. The main speaker for this session was Dr. Channa Perera, Consultant JMO for NIMH/NIID and CEBH.
A special program to mark the World Drugs Prevention Day was held on 30.06.2020 jointly organised by the Health Promotion Unit of NIMH and the Substance Misuse Treatment Unit of NIMH. The Mulleriyawa Police and the DDCB also participated as guest speakers at this event.
