Medical Library

E-mail Print PDF

The medical library at NIMH was ceremonially opened by Dr. R. Kulanayagam [retired consultant psychiatrist] with the participation of other retired consultant psychiatrists of the hospital and the present hospital staff.

The library contains a vast number of books and journals, not only in the field of psychiatry, but also of other specialties and is staffed by a patient who is receiving inward treatment from the hospital. It is open to all staff in the hospital on weekdays and has ample space to accommodate 40 to 50 people at a time.

Since the hospital is becoming more and more involved in mental health training and research - including in postgraduate training in psychiatry - we are planning to expand the facilities at the library by adding an IT section and more reading material to cater to the demand.

We greatly welcome any donations in the form of medical books, journals and even novels from well wishers. The following list is a compilation of in-demand books which might be a useful guide for potential donors:

  • Review of Medical Physiology by William F. Ganong

  • Text Book of Medical Physiology by Guyton & Hall

  • Clinical Neuroanatomy by Richard S. Snell

  • Principal and Practise of Medicine by Davidson’s

  • Clinical Medicine by Kumar and Cleark
