Home Get Involved Volunteer at NIMH

Welcome to the Volunteer's Page

Self servingThe volunteer's programme at NIMH is a new initiative at the institute. Based on the successful volunteers' programmes of regional counterparts such as, Fountain House in Pakistan and NIMHANS in India, we hope that the programme will attract local as well as international volunteers on a part and full-time basis.

Volunteers at NIMH are individuals and corporations who are committed to making a difference in the lives of countless people who suffer from mental illness.

Volunteers are expected to share their skills and resources with the patients under the guidance of the clinical team. Following a brief training programme, volunteers will be expected to act as facilitators/coordinators in various groups of patients

We call on all those people who are committed to improving mental health in Sri Lanka to get involved by becoming volunteers at NIMH.

Programmes available for volunteers at NIMH:

  • Facilitation of patient groups
  • Conducting classes for patients and new volunteers
  • Organizing and conducting fund raising activities
  • Helping with the website
  • Providing transport for home visits
